Kent & Medway Cyber Cluster (KMCC) Partnership Event

KMCC Cyber Risk and Resilience for Kent businesses

The challenge

Kent businesses are facing an increasing volume and sophistication of cyber attacks, with the potential to disrupt operations, damage reputation, and undermine long-term resilience. While awareness of cyber risk is improving, many organisations, particularly SMEs, lack practical experience of managing a live cyber incident and understanding the leadership decisions required under pressure.

Cyber security is still too often perceived as a technical issue, rather than a whole-business risk requiring clear governance, communication and decisive leadership.

Our approach

In partnership with the Kent & Medway Cyber Cluster (KMCC) and GOACO, Cognitas Global delivered a free cyber tabletop exercise (TTX), using view360global, for Kent businesses, designed to:

  • Raise awareness of modern cyber threats
  • Demonstrate the realities of managing a cyber incident
  • Improve understanding of preventative measures
  • Build confidence in responding effectively if attacked

Participants took part in a live, guided cyber-attack simulation, making time-critical decisions as the scenario escalated. The exercise explored leadership, communications, operational continuity, and recovery, supported by expert insight from GOACO on current cyber risks and preventative controls.

Positioned as awareness-raising rather than assessment, the exercise encouraged open discussion and honest reflection without judgment—turning abstract risk into tangible leadership capability Most importantly, it emphasised why being prepared makes all the difference.

The value

The day was a real success with engagement and highly positive feedback from participants who walked away with practical actions they could take immediately, increased awareness of preventative measures, and guidance on accessing free cyber support and resources available to Kent businesses though KMCC and the NCSC.

The event demonstrated the value of experiential learning in turning cyber risk from theory into practical leadership capability, while strengthening cyber resilience across the Kent business community but most valuably, the confidence that comes from experiencing something before it happens for real.

“It’s been really engaging and insightful. It’s been great to be in a room with experts and hear from them, then working through the scenario, using the platform has been really, really good. Obviously, it’s got the heart rate up a couple of times and dealt with those worst nightmares as someone that looks after data security and IT systems.”
